Sheetal Kumar Jain

Principal Investigator

Sheetal Jain joined SSCU at IISc in June 2021 as an Assistant Professor. He did his masters from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune. Sheetal completed his Ph.D. from Aarhus University, Denmark in the group of Prof. Niels Christian Nielsen in 2014. After that, he moved to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the USA as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Griffin Group. Before joining IISc, he worked at the University of California Santa Barbara as a Postdoc in Prof. Songi Han’s group.

Isha

Ph.D. Student

Isha is a Ph.D. student (Aug-2021 batch). She has done her Bachelor's from Kirori Mal College, Delhi University, and Master's from IIT Indore(2018) with a major in Chemistry. Isha is mainly interested in the characterization of battery materials using NMR techniques. Besides work and studies, she enjoys playing Basket Ball, Table Tennis, and Badminton and loves dancing too.

Nikita Rao

Ph.D. Student

Nikita is a Ph.D. student and joined the group in Aug-2021. She has done integrated M.Sc. in physics from the Central University of Rajasthan(2019). Her research interest is mainly focused on soil organic matter characterization using NMR techniques. When she is not working, she does yoga and meditation. Nikita also loves singing, watching sci-fi movies, and exploring new places.

Shubham Kumar Debadatta

Ph.D. Student

Shubham is a Ph.D. student (Jan-2022 batch). He has done his Bachelor's from Bhadrak Autonomous College, Odisha, and Master's from IIT Delhi (2020) in Physics discipline. Currently, Shubham is interested in working on quantum mechanical calculations to understand spin-dynamics and develop new hyperpolarization methods for solid state DNP at room temperature using defect centers in diamond. He is a bookman, a good chess player, and usually loves to explore Human psychological facts.

Shovik Ray

Integrated Ph.D. Student

Shovik is an Integrated Ph.D. student from the 2021 cohort. He earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry with Honors from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, in 2021 and joined the MagRes group in October 2022. Shovik's research focuses on quantum spin-dynamic calculations implementing Optimal Control to look for innovative radio-frequency pulses and methodologies for solid-state NMR. Additionally, he delves into the experimental facets of solid-state NMR in pharmaceutical compounds, dynamics of solid polymer electrolyte, the study of bio-organs and organisms and NMR Crystallography. Beyond his academic pursuits, Shovik enjoys reading political literature, participating in quizzes, riding bikes, and exploring new destinations.

Suraj Halder

Ph.D. Student

Suraj is a Ph.D. student who joined the MagRes group in January 2023. He received his bachelor’s from Presidency University, Kolkata (Aug 2020), and master’s from IIT Kharagpur (Aug 2022) in Physics. He is currently focused on spin dynamics, aiming to uncover relaxation theory & decoherence mechanisms and develop new pulses to reduce their impact on defect-based quantum materials for quantum information and sensing applications. Additionally, he is exploring optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR) and other experimental aspects of magnetic resonance techniques. Apart from research, he loves listening to Indian classical instrumentation and playing outdoor games.

Amit Roy

Ph.D. Student

Amit is a Ph.D. student (Aug-2023 batch). He has done his Bachelor's from Gurucharan College, Silchar, Assam, and Master's from Assam University (2022), Silchar in physics discipline. Amit likes to swim whenever he get a chance.
